Top Five Perthshire Biking Destinations
Dunkeld and Birnam
Dunkeld has fast become one of Scotland’s top two wheeled destinations, let alone Perthshire’s. With its magnificent setting and its steep forested surroundings, Dunkeld is a Mountain Bikers dream destination. With several races every year, including an Enduro, the cream of Britain’s big tyre brigade can be regularly found in the steep rutted routes such as ‘The Mast’ and ‘Rake and Ruin’. For those after something more gentle, Craigvinean Forest has mile upon mile of family friendly routes. Progression Bikes is the heart of the local scene with Bike Hire, Servicing, Guiding and a fully stocked shop.
Pitlochry
Annually, the Etape Caledonia, Britain’s largest closed road Etape, brings thousands of road cyclists to Pitlochry. They are rewarded with magnificent scenery in every which direction. For Mountain Bikers, Craigower Hill, loomed over by Ben Vrackie has plenty of trails for all levels.
Aberfeldy
Another mini Bike Mecca, Aberfeldy is a great cycling base, with lovely riverside routes for the family (Griffin Forest is another family friendly tip). The Mountain Bike crew of ‘Rabbies Trails’ are some of the keenest around with lots of new trails going in at Glassie plus some streep runs near the Birks of Aberfeldy. Nearby, Kenmore, on the banks of Loch Tay is the annual home of the Aberfeldy Triathlon and the Scottish Middle Distance Triathlon, with hundreds of participants cycling through stunning countryside.
Comrie
Comrie Croft is a classic mountain bike destination for all levels of bikers. There are graded trails for all at this trail centre. It is a really family friendly centre with camping, hire and great food and drink thrown into the mix too. The trails are really flowy, it really is one of those places that has a lifetime of fun trails for you to explore.
Perth
Perth City itself has its own Mountain Bike hub, KInnoul Hill. Looking down onto the city with sweeping views in every direction, there is more than just views to rewards you from the top of Kinnoul Hill. There is a really good selection of trails for all abilities to enjoy.
